I've long since forgotten where I found this recipe, when I clipped the recipe I didn't save any info about the date or publication.

MICROWAVE FUDGE
Microwave 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips and a 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk, 5 minutes. Stir vigorously, then add 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Spread in an 8 inch square pan lined with buttered parchment paper. Refrigerate, then cut into squares.

This would be a great recipe for anyone who is new to candy making, fairly foolproof, although the result is a bit soft. Variations would be pretty easy:
Use dulce de leche instead of sweetened condensed milk
Add a small amount of spice, like cinnamon or cayenne or whatever sounds good
Use white chocolate instead of semisweet.

Two notes of caution. Depending on the brand, bags of chocolate chips in the US vary from 10-12 ounces. This may affect the end result. Also, standard cans of sweetened condensed milk i found were 12.5 ounces, not 14. This didn't seem to be a problem.

I don’t know about the US but in the U.K. you can do it with vegan condensed milk too :)

Microwave fudge is fun and infinitely variable. I have a Rainbow Fudge recipe ased on white chocolate microwave fudge.

This is how I grew up making fudge, except using a double boiler to melt the chocolate. After learning how fudge is normally made, I call this version cheater fudge. I still love it.

Vegan condensed milk? Is this commonly found on the shelf?

Yes and no. Bigger Chinese supermarkets have had it on the shelves for years, however, carnation have just started making one and my Facebook ads are currently full of ‘make this thing with our vegan condensed milk’ so I assume it will be getting more common!

I found some *coconut* sweetened condensed milk a while back. I have like 4 cans on the shelf (because I have a friend who's lactose-allergic)
