It's been chilly lately so last Sunday I made the chicken and dumplings recipe that I've had in the 'to try' folder for ages. I haven't had chicken and dumplings for years. And unlike my childhood, it's not really necessary to wait until you have an old hen to butcher and eat.

As written,the recipe turned out very bland. When I heated up leftovers I added some chicken bouillon with a small amount of water which fixed it. So I assume if you add bouillon with the water or use chicken broth when you cook the chicken and vegetables it will be much better.

You might also try browning the aromatics - the onion and garlic, that is - before putting in the slow-cooker. That usually helps a lot.
